Finca Antigua. Una bodega en la que disfrutar.

La familia Joaquín Martínez Bujanda lleva desde 1889 en el mundo del vino, desde que su bisabuelo fundó la bodega. La cuarta generación es por tanto la que dirige el grupo actualmente, así que es indudable que conocen el mundo del vino a la perfección. El grupo Martínez Bujanda está formado por cinco bodegas: Finca Valpiedra, Viña Bujanda, Cosecheros y Criadores, Finca Montepedroso y Finca Antigua. En esta última bodega, hará el Winebus una interesante parada en la que conocerán las instalaciones y podrán degustar sus vinos.

Finca Antigua surge en 1998, cuando el grupo busca nuevas zonas vinícolas en las que elaborar nuevos vinos. Su apuesta por la viña como la base para obtener un buen vino es evidente. Ubicada entre Cuenca y Toledo, esta parcela dispone de 421 hectáreas de vid situadas sobre suelos pobres en materia orgánica, excelentes para la planta. Los veranos manchegos calurosos, extremadamente secos son muy perjudiciales. Sin embargo, esta circunstancia se ve atenuada en Finca Antigua por la elevada altitud a la que están situadas las parcelas (900 metros). Y como variedades hay gran diversidad: el omnipresente tempranillo, la Riojana Viura, la aromática Moscatel y las foráneas Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot y Syrah. Tanta gama, posibilita que la dependencia a la calidad de la cosecha del año o añada sea menor y que las mezclas o coupages posibles sean muy diferentes.

La impresionante construcción que domina la finca es la bodega : arquitectura de vanguardia en su exterior y ultimas tecnologías de elaboración en su interior. El edificio está fabricado en acero, piedra y cemento.Dividida en tres grandes cajas y con una balsa de agua en el exterior.

Y que decir de los vinos. Hay blancos secos de Viura y dulces de Moscatel, tintos monovarietales jóvenes y con crianza. Muy interesantes son los caldos elaborados con una única variedad, ya que permiten iniciarse en la cata de una manera sencilla. Empezando a degustar vinos monovarietales, podemos hacernos una idea de cuales son las características diferenciales de cada una de ellas, para así después probar ya otros vinos mezcla y conocer un poco más la apasionante cultura del vino.

On Saturday October 6th we go to the Malpica Winery from the Osborne Group.

This winery is located in the Extramadura road about 60 miles from Madrid.

This winery is special for several reasons. They  ellaborate some great wines, and you perceive the Osborne brand in everything,  their wines, their facilities, their speech. Everything starts with the Osborne bull  “El Toro de Osborne”. Before arriving to the winery you can already notice its presence. Where else? On the road that leads to the cellar, of course.

The “Toro de Osborne” Is something very special and friendly for all Spanish. There was a time when all our roads were lined with billboards. Until they were abolished But they decided that the “toro” should remain. And the “Toro” is still in our roads. It is part of our landscape.

This brand, Osborne, and that logo is seen in each of its wines, its facilities, in their speeches. It transmits desire for perfection, elegance, beauty, personality, expertise.

During the visit we will see quite a good sized cellar, a very pleasant and didactic walk, on the elaboration of wine, about what the Osborne Group represents, and the way Osborne making wines. This is a very well prepared visit in which you realize  that many people  come to visit attracted by its charm. We will taste 3 of their wines, all of them pretty good. In a very appopiated room for tasting wines.

After the visit we wiil go to have lunch in a restaurant very closed to the winery, in Puebla de Montalbán that has made us a delightful menu of 30 euros.

On the way back we will stop at Navalcarnero to visit its wonderful “Wine Interpretation Center”. We can we also go to the Wine Museum which is a successful attempt to bring the world of wine through the 5 senses.. Navalcarnero is a gem that we have at hand, and do not remember that exists, perhaps because it is too close. And that seems  a defect when it is a actually a virtue.

And if we still have time (god knows if we will have spare time), we will have a drink  in Segovia Square, one of the most original and pretty  squares of Spain.

With the winebus we are visiting quite a number of wineries.

And most of them have one thing in common, their fine wines, personality, a nice facility, an attractive speech about their wines and winery.

Finca Antigua is a very ambitious project just in the centre of La Mancha, made by a group that knows what they have in hand, when they create a new winery in a wonderful place.

I can ensure you that no person in this trip will forget the visit, no matter how many wineries he has visited previously. And this is because they have such an elegance, know how and personality very remarkable.

We will taste 3 of their wines. I can already anticipate that their wines are somewhat unusual. And that we will taste them in a room with a breathtaking view of a vast universe of olive trees and vineyards. The visit to this winery is something really spectacular.

After the visit to the winery we go to the Restaurant La Muralla where we will in wich have superb castillian food paying no more than 25 euros. (lunch is not included on the initial price).

And then we will go to see the castle of Belmonte. We will go afterwards to visit the Belmonte castle. This castle is preserved in an exceptional state. So exceptional that its walls have been used for more than a medieval movie. There is a story behind that deserves to be known. We will do a guided tour in which we will learn about its history. Hello to everybody.

On Saturday 22nd we go to a very nice winery whose wines caused us a great impression on one of the tastings we did recently. Speaking with their managers also told how importan was to them the winetourism.

As the winery is just 60 miles fom Madrid, we knew that it was a problem of time of going to visit them. I have been recently on their facilities and I can already say that visiting them is quite an amazing experience.

We have been also in Alcalá de Henares recently. This town is just on the way to the winery. We just expect we will have as much fun as we had last time.

In short. We go to Finca Rio Negro (You will see that most spectacular entry through pine forests and what has this winery has stunning wines), to go after to have tapas, wines and drinks to Alcalá de Henares.

The combination has to be perfect.

El Winebus para en Alcalá de Henares.

Alcalá de Henares está situada a unos 30 km de la ciudad de Madrid y es el tercer municipio más poblado de la Comunidad. Su fundación data de la época celtíbera, pero no es hasta la ocupación romana cuando empezó a convertirse en un lugar relevante. Su apogeo llegó en 1998 con la declaración como Ciudad patrimonio Mundial por parte de la Unesco, lo que la convirtió en una población única según dicho organismo.

De la ciudad han salido grandes personajes de la historia, como Manuel Azaña, pero sin duda Alcalá de Henares es reconocida como el lugar de nacimiento del literato más famoso de la lengua española: Miguel de Cervantes.

Monumentos

El patrimonio histórico es amplio y como hemos dicho reconocido. Algunos de los lugares esenciales son los siguientes:

La Universidad

No se puede nombrar a Alcalá sin recordar inmediatamente su universidad. Construida por iniciativa del Cardenal Cisneros a finales del siglo XV, está formada por un conjunto de colegios mayores y menores. Durante el siglo de Oro español gozó de gran reconocimiento y actualmente es una ciudad universitaria que depende de la central situada en Madrid

Catedral Magistral.

Es, junto a la Universidad de San Pedro de Lovaina en Bélgica, la única catedral del mundo con el título de Magistral, lo que significa que está vinculada a la universidad. Es de estilo arquitectónico gótico tardío, destacando en el edificio su estilizada torre y su claustro renacentistas.

Casa natal de Miguel de Cervantes.

Aunque el lugar de nacimiento del escritor no está del todo claro, los expertos consideran esta tradicional casa hidalga española como el sitio más probable. Se encuentra emplazada en torno a un patio de columnas renacentistas y está amueblada de la manera tradicional de la época.

Palacio arzobispal

Se encuentra situado en la plaza del Palacio y en él han vivido números personajes históricos como Catalina de Aragón. El edificio ha sido sometido a varias rehabilitaciones, concluyendo la última en 1996.Su fachada principal es renacentista.

Gastronomía.

Los platos típicos de la zona siguen la tradición culinaria Castellano-Manchega. Son frecuentes platos fuertes como las migas con chorizo, la sopa de ajo y los asados de cordero. Y muy prestigiosa es su repostería, basada en los dulces elaborados en conventos como las almendras garrapiñadas, las rosquillas de Alcalá, los penitentes,…El postre estrella de la zona que no debes dejar de probar es la costrada de Álcala.
