Digital Communication in the spanish wine industry. In the english wine industry.

It´s amazing the difference between social media on the English speaking wine sector, if compared with Spanish speaking wine sector.

There is a huge distance. Bu there is something that is unquestionable. What is happening there will happen here too.

Someone said a few days ago in Twittter that the wine industry does not believe in Social Media. My answer to this tweet was that it is not important if wineries do not believe. What is important is that many consumers do. These two factors altogether mean  there is a huge potential for entepreneur wineries that are brave enough (Are they only brave or have they also the knowledge?), to make the leap.

But… Do we want facts?

A few days ago, Fenavin, one of the most important Spanish wine fairs took place in Ciudad Real. A good friend of mine,  Jesús Benito, was responsible of making a conference during the fair about 2.0 which was called  Fenavin 2.0. In the beginning, the room was crowded, but as soon as they gave some prizes for important players on the wine industry, most of the people left. Only 20 or 25 people stayed for the “true conference”. Very few wineries.

By the way. Y have to say that the speakers and their conferences were at premium level. Congratulations to Jesus Benito for organizing it so well. Everything was fine.

This same week the London Wine Fair took place. On this fair there was also a conference about electronic commerce. The ticket for getting in was 150 pounds per person, with a maximum of 200 people. They had closed he ticket allocations on the internet several days before the event. Y guess there was a full assistance.

I do not know what conclusions my readers do take about this. I have no doubt about the importance of what Social Media has in order get visibility and sales. This is coming also to Spain very soon, and many wineries are not going to be well prepared for this.

In the English speaking world there is a great excitement. And in Spain, at the same time it looks as we were in the middle of the desert. Let us give time to my prediction. But not too much. It is coming soon.

The question is not any more whether we do social media, but how well we do it.

The CRM and the Social Media get together.

Social Media Marketing

There are many reasons why companies find Social Media attractive; 1) reaching more visibility, 2) improving their reputation, and 3) selling more.

Wineries get in contact with consumers, consumer motivators, intermediaries, and interested public in general through Social Media. Therefore, it is important to always keep our eyes open, in order to be able to inform, convince or give preferential attention to a contact –in case of consumer motivators, it is important for us to become recommendable; regarding consumers, we should make possible our product is purchased –whether directly or indirectly– and recommended to their friends and relatives; and, finally, in the case of intermediaries, we must ensure our product is purchased and sold.

In this blog we talk about communication through the Internet as a mean to increase sales. Therefore, we need a tool allowing us to work in the most convenient way.

The CRM is the systematization of our contacts with the idea that each customer must be treated according to his characteristics. It is about making communication personal and standard at the same time in case homogeneities supporting treatment or communication are found.

I personally believe that the Social Media has a lot to offer for the CRM and vice versa. As a result of such an interaction, there is greater communication power, bearing in mind that Social Media always reminds us of the person behind each contact, who is a person with a name and a surname, with different likes and personal characteristics, who is willing to receive customized treatment.

Circumstances like those mentioned above make us believe that the Social Media Marketing is becoming adult.

Getting your Attention. Thats the goal!!

Captar la atención

One of the most incredible phenomena that we’re witnessing during this internet revolution that’s all happening around us right now, is how easy it has become to upload content; and the enormous amount of content that is in fact uploaded every day.

This means that we’ve come to rely on search engines to act as filters when looking for information. But even this is not good enough now, as we don’t even have the time to decide whether the information is good or bad. For this reason we now focus our attention on the information that reaches us via people who we have designated as “trustworthy”. This represents an enormous saving in terms of time and allows us to be efficient with our time.

But this also works against us if it’s us that wants to communicate or contact other people, and they haven’t classified us as “trustworthy”. In that case they don’t pay attention to us or listen to what we have to say. It doesn’t matter if we have something worthwhile to say or not. We have to grind our way through the process of painstakingly acquiring an audience one–by-one so as to be deemed ‘trustworthy’. But hey: if we manage to do it – welcome to the club! … to the club of those who listen; .. to the club of those who listen to those who listen to us!
We have become used to this process without realizing it.

The following video express this idea perfectly:

For those of you who have already seen it, please click on your brain! Try to pretend that it’s the first time you’re seeing it:

What I’m trying to say here is that now that it’s easier than ever to communicate, it’s become harder than ever to get people to listen to you! There’s a lot of background noise, and a lot of (mis)information out there. If the quality if the information is important to us all, even more important is WHO is doing the communicating.

Today I read an article on the debate of what is more important: SEO or having a Community Manager. I assume that my take on that issue is clear!

Did you pay attention and listen to what I said in this post?

You can’t imagine how grateful I am for that! I hope you liked what you read. Because if you did, then, the chances of you reading my future posts have improved dramatically.

Thanks again.
